Have you ever thought of becoming a school Governor?
You’d be joining over 250,000 people who already volunteer as school governors across the country and share your passion and flair for education and the local community, Here’s a little overview of what’s involved.
A governor is an individual who works with the rest of the board. They’re committed to contributing to the educational futures of our youth. You must be over 18 and show a keen interest in education and the local community.
Responsibilities involve constructively challenging current processes, using your unique skills to support senior leaders, and overseeing school finances. You’ll be involved in a whole host of areas, such as monitoring, budget management and data analysis with the opportunity to undergo further training to develop your professional skills.
In most schools, full board meetings are held termly, as are committee meetings.
Most governors will sit on a committee linked to their skills such as teaching and learning or finance and resources. In addition to attending meetings, governors will need to read the papers assigned to agendas before the meetings. Also, governors may have the opportunity to complete training courses and occasionally visit their schools.
How can I become a school governor?
