School-based nurseries funding round to launch next month
The first stage of the government’s plan to deliver 3,000 nurseries by upgrading spare spaces in primary schools will begin this month.
Schools will be invited to bid for a share of £15 million capital funding, with capacity in the programme to deliver up to 300 new or expanded nurseries in this first round.

Breakfast club early adopters scheme
Up to 750 schools will be funded for a free breakfast club pilot as part of the government’s pledge to provide free breakfasts clubs to every primary school in England.
The early adopter scheme is open to state-funded primary schools, and builds on the government’s national wrap around childcare programme and national school breakfast programme.
The scheme will run during the summer term of 2025 (April-July), with early adopter schools to be confirmed early that year.

Labour’s education policy: What schools can expect
TES said “Labour has moved fast on some of its key pledges – announcing the introduction of report cards amid a wider shake-up of school accountability and improvement at the start of term – but has yet to reveal further details of others, such as how it plans to boost teacher recruitment.”
At the launch of the Labour Party’s general election manifesto in June, Sir Keir Starmer said that hiring 6,500 more teachers would ensure that children get the start in life they deserve.
The manifesto reaffirmed the party’s pledge to fund its teacher recruitment drive via the ending of tax breaks for private schools, and in July the treasury said the VAT charge on fees would apply from January.
